And the elephants walked through treacle, Just Because They Could…

Filed under: General — MikeW @ 5:19 pm

Well, people on the same floor as Karin and I are getting used to my slightly odd life-style. Popping out for a late-night snack and finding me in the kitchen cooking a stir-fry at 3:00am is no longer too much of a shock for them!

Our new TV was delivered today, just 2 days after we ordered it online, and is pretty decent considering it was just 1729SEK including postage (about £130) and is 21″ with an excellent picture quality. It is pretty large though!

Work has been going fine, with the event booking system being all but finished and responding to emails and SMS messages like it should. I think I’m going to return to some games coding before I get around to spending some serious time on Fed (my feed reader) though. It’d be good to get the demos done and out the way as they may bring in some work…

Karin has been ill for a few days and will be going to see the doctor soon, but hopefully she will be feeling better tomorrow.

Well, that’s it.

Snow - Fed - Egg

Filed under: General — MikeW @ 1:39 pm

Things have been going OK here in Uppsala. The temperature picked up last Wedndesday, Thursday and Friday and melted a whole load of the snow away so there is alot of water about. Karin and I had a nice Easter weekend in Stockholm at Karin’s parents appartment and are back in Uppsala now.

Work is going well. I have alot I want to get done in the next few weeks. I have almost finished writing the web, email and SMS based event booking system I have been working on for a couple of days (for a rowing club…) and I want to get Fed, my Feed Reader, feature complete at some point (requires an overhaul of it’s internal database :( ). This is as well as my game-related demos (that I have not touched in a while now) and packaging up some physics code for a friend. Phew!

Karin proved that Swedes aren’t always the better race the other day by forgeting to remove the last egg from the egg carton before she stamped on it to flatten it for recycling! I found it more than slightly funny and Karin does too…now.

Relocation Complete…

Filed under: General — MikeW @ 10:32 am

Well, I’m over in sunny Sweden now. The flight went fine and Karin met me at the airport, then we took the bus and a taxi back to our place in Uppsala. It is not too cold here at the mo. About 0 in the day in the sun, dropping to -13 at night. There is snow and everything.

I just want to say Thanks to everyone who came out on one or both of the last two nights before I left. I certainly had a blast (expecially on Friday…I won’t forget that night in a hurry!) and It meant alot that y’all came out. Cheers!

I’ll will be contacting everyone who needs to know about about the RubberGlove project in the next couple of days or so. If you think you should know but I don’t contact you contact me or Dan I guess.

Man this moving is scary stuff. It has been sad to say goodbye to everyone over the last week or so but it won’t be for ever and in a strange way it feels like moving to Sweden is the ‘right’ thing to do. I love it out here and don’t want to spend any more time apart from Karin than I have to so I think everything will work out OK.

Take care of yourself everyone and keep in touch,

Mike.

Uppsala - Morrison - Gig - Guide

Filed under: General — MikeW @ 11:05 pm

I’m off to Uppsala on the 20th March (next Sunday) so it is all systems go to try and visit loads of people and get everything ready for the Big Move. If I don’t get around to see you and you think I should have I apologise! It’s not that I don’t love you, it just that…y’know, you stink. (! - not really, I’m just in a real rush at the mo.)

My Swedish is getting better and better and I had a good week with Karin the week just gone. Totally irrelevant to you I know. Ho Hum.

Mono Effecto Gig: This Friday, Bull & Gate, Kentish Town, 8pm

I am after issue 11 of Grant Morrison’s “The Filth” so if you have it and don’t mind parting with it let me know. I failed to pick it up in Brighton the other day, the decent comic shop in Reading that may have it is only open the days I am busy and I couldn’t see it in the shop in Uppsala last time I was over there. I will keep looking - It shouldn’t be too hard…

I seem to be turning into a G.M. junkie lately having also picked up “Anarchy For The Masses : The Disinformation Guide To The Invisibles” today (with a book token I found stuffed in a box I was looking through while I thought I had lost my Passport). Rather than being written by Morrison himself, it is a guide (yep - it says so in the title) to the series as a whole, pointing out all the sly pop- and otherwise -culture references you were too stupid to pick up on. Hmm. Not as bad as it sounds actually and should prove good reading matter for the journey to Uppsala. (I’m also taking a Powers T.P.B).

Mono Gig - Random Effecto - Feed Later

Filed under: General — MikeW @ 10:05 pm

I got down to see last nights Mono Effecto gig at the Dublin Castle and it was excellent. It was widely agreed that it was one of their best gigs to date. Surely someone will sign them?! Cheers to Mike, Diego and Pete for a good night out. To everyone who missed it: Shame on you.

Random Link (found by accident. Honestly Karin!): Imaginary Girlfriends - Can’t be serious…can it?

I’ve been developing a blog\RSS feed reader over the last few days and I am really pleased with it’s progress. It will be available online (free, but donations will be accepted!) within a month or so I would guess. It supports all kinds of cool things and will also manage podcasts and things like that.

Game programming will resume later. (Or as soon as someone pays me - you know you want to.)

Also: “Dog Legs”: Super Handicapped Pro-Wrestling - found on Warren Ellis’ page. Somehow no opinion you can have on this will be acceptable in polite company…
